Working his way up the most prominent fashion runway shows, this 26-year-old self taught designer has been able to fulfill one of his many dreams and reach the world with his designs.

Born and raised in South of France Simon Porte Jacquemus, decided at the young age of 19 to start his own fashion label inspired by female actress and singer Isabelle Adjani. “I’m rather fascinated by Isabelle Adjani, I don’t like the word muse, as I don’t have any. In all her television appearances in the 80s, she never overplayed her role as a celebrity. She was presenting herself in a very natural way and then she went back home to take care of her children. A real woman; charismatic and simple. That’s how I want my collections to be like.” Jacquemus stated.

Simon studied fashion design for three months and then worked as a stylist assistant until 2009 where he decided that he wanted to move to a small atelier in Montmartre to work on his collection.

As a young Parisian designer, Simon’s unique vision and playful approach has already attracted many fans around the world and stockists including Dover Street Market and Opening Ceremony. It has also earned him two nominations for the Louis Vuitton Moet-Hennessy Prize for innovative young designers.

He began working on his first small Autumn/Winter 2010 collection entitled Hiver-Froid and then continued with Les Filles en Blanc for the Spring/Summer 2011 season. Both collections were feminine and based on simplicity, but the attention of the Parisian fashion scene to them was immediate.

His latest collection Le Nez Rouge (or The Red Nose) is a compilation of a few selected colors of red, navy, white and gray. “I wanted to tell the story of a solitary woman who has grown tired of men and has decided to devote her life to dogs. The collection was called Le Nez Rouge, he said, because he had been sick, afflicted with a red nose and personal troubles as he was designing. “You know, my collections are normally about the South of France and the beach and happy things? Well, now the Jacquemus girl is not smiling,” he said. Without spelling out what had happened, he added, “My friends, my family knows.”

With collections like Hiver-Froid, Les Filles en Blanc, and now Le Nez Rouge, Jacquemus’ name is recognized and is heard everywhere. His line is seen in a number of prestigious boutiques such as Opening Ceremony, Dover Street Market, Maria Luisa Hong Kong and Biffi.

Whether it’s his endless love for Isabelle Adjani or his out of the ordinary vision for femininity that makes his style so special; Simon Porte Jacquemus is a self-taught dreamer filled with undiscovered talent yet to be seen.
